Good to Know

  • Please note that good rain gear is essential. In the unlikely event of extended rain storms, proper wind/water protection is important. And when we paddle, we are repeatedly stepping in and out of the boat into water with rocks and cut beaver wood. So, safe shoes for walking (knee deep) in water and swimming are essential.
  • Please DO NOT bring any cosmetics, food/gum or personal camping gear (tent, sleeping bag, etc.). Our space is very limited and anything scented can attract bears. Pack only your toothbrush and paste for toiletries. We will provide biodegradable soap for bathing. If you are nicotine dependent or use medical cannabis, please use non-toxic/polluting methods (vaporizer, edible or patch) to dose. Smoking anything
  • is never permitted. Up to 4oz of alcohol is permitted, if in an appropriated sized container (no cans or glass). Please turn over to guide for storage upon arrival and only consume after dinner/out of water.

Meeting Point

Please see http://goo.gl/maps/u60oQ for directions to our meeting location on the beach at Canoe Lake. Canoe Lake beach is located at latitude/longitude: 45.535032°, -78.706570°. Please watch for the little KM markers on the side of highway 60, inside Algonquin Park. The turn off for Canoe Lake (look for the large sign says Canoe Lake/Portage Store) is after KM 14 when entering the West gate. Or, KM 15, if entering Algonquin Park by east gate. As you drive 150m (yards) up the Canoe Lake Rd. Please park in this first parking lot and walk down (via the small driveway at the far end - look for a second Canoe Lake sign) to the beach with your bags. We meet on the rocky beach near the Ontario Parks building at the far end of the Canoe Lake beach. Please look for our staff, canoes or van with the Canadian flag logo. If it is raining hard, we meet on the outside deck of the Ontario Parks Canoe Lake permit building.
